PLOS Currents no longer accepts new submissions
After much consideration and a full review of the platform, we have made the difficult decision to cease publication of PLOS Currents. We no longer accept new submissions to the journal.
Authors of articles under review at PLOS Currents have been contacted by the journal office. All PLOS Currents content remains available here and in PubMedCentral, and is indexed in PubMed.
All enquiries can be addressed to email@example.com
PLOS Currents (ISSN 2157-3999) is a publication channel that aims to minimize the delay between the generation and publication of new research. The content is peer-reviewed, citable, publicly archived, and included in PubMed. By facilitating and accelerating the sharing of new findings and ideas, we hope that PLOS Currents will accelerate the research cycle itself.
The PLOS Currents sections are run on Annotum, an open-source, open-process, open-access scholarly authoring and publishing platform. Authors compile their manuscript submission and are in complete control of the appearance of their article. With PLOS Currents, submission to publication can take place in a matter of days and there are no publication fees.
The first section of PLOS Currents focused on Influenza was launched in August 2009 in response to the worldwide H1N1 influenza outbreak. The scope of this section was expanded in May 2013 to cover all infectious disease Outbreaks with impact or potential impact on human health.
The series was also expanded with the addition of three sections in 2010 on Huntington Disease produced with support from CHDI Foundation (you can see a video about this website here); Evidence on Genomic Tests in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Editorial announcement is available here); and on phylogenetic studies called the Tree of Life. In 2011 a section on Muscular Dystrophy was added with support from Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy; and in 2012 a section covering Disasters research was launched.
