In our model we use both origin-destination traffic flow data as well as specific flight connection information to assess the air traffic flow between airports. Those two datasets allow us to analyze the passenger flow in complementary ways, leading to the two risk scenarios reported in the article (dark and light blue bars on Figure 3).
