PLOS Currents: Influenza was launched in August 2009 to rapidly disseminate data and ideas in the realm of influenza research in response to the worldwide H1N1 influenza outbreak. In May 2013 the publication was renamed PLOS Currents: Outbreaks and the scope was expanded to include all infectious disease outbreaks with impact or potential impact on human health.
